  • César Azpilicueta
    2.5

    César Azpilicueta

Seemingly in direct competition with Branislav Ivanovic for that right-back berth and would have undoubtedly liked to have effected the game more going forward. Solid enough defensively although N'Guessan did cause him more problems in the second half.

  • David Luiz
    3

    David Luiz

A comfortable evening for the Brazilian with Swindon providing little threat to the Chelsea goal in the first half especially. Struck one trademark free kick early on and moved into a holding midfield position after John Terry was introduced at half-time.

  • Gary Cahill
    3

    Gary Cahill

Dealt easily with the fairly limited threat of Nile Ranger in the first half but was given more to think about in the second half after N'Guessan moved up front. He'll be happy enough with the cleansheet, though.

  • Ryan Bertrand
    2.5

    Ryan Bertrand

A fairly quiet night for Ashley Cole's deputy, with Bertrand capably dealing with Nicky Ajose but, much like Azpilicueta, would have liked to have bombed forward and provided further threat in attacking areas.

  • Kevin De Bruyne
    2

    Kevin De Bruyne

Saw little of the ball in the first period but had a fantastic chance early on in the second only to fail to make contact with the ball. Would later sting Foderingham's palms with a powerful effort but he would have hoped to make more of what was a big chance to show what he can do. Hooked for Ba with 12 minutes remaining.

  • Michael Essien
    3

    Michael Essien

Skippered the side as John Terry started on the bench and marshalled the back four fairly well. Was a little wayward with some of his passing but all in all it was decent outing from the Ghanaian.

  • Marco van Ginkel
    2

    Marco van Ginkel

Would have been a good opportunity to impress Mourinho in what is likely to be a rare outing but his night was over after just 10 minutes after failing to shake off an early knock. Replaced by Ramires.

  • Willian
    1.5

    Willian Flop of the Match

Was a big chance for Willian to stake a claim for a starting spot ahead of Saturday's meeting with Tottenham but he ultimately failed to deliver. Had two terrific opportunities to open his account for the club in the second half but missed both and generally struggled to impact the game.

  • Fernando Torres
    3.5

Fernando Torres Top of the Match

Followed up well to convert Chelsea's first after Mata's effort was saved by Foderingham and then produced a delightful piece of skill to turn away from two Swindon defenders and put Ramires through to score the second. Was fairly anonymous in the second half but a productive night nonetheless as he looks to get the nod ahead of Demba Ba and Samuel Eto'o at the weekend.

  • Juan Mata
    2.5

    Juan Mata

All the pre-match talk was focused on Mata and he will ultimately be disappointed not to have taken the chance to prove to Mourinho that he deserves more game time. Found Torres with a delightful through pass in the first half but his influence waned in the second. Expect Oscar to get the nod on Saturday once again.

Substitutions

  • John Terry
    2.5

    John Terry

Introduced for Ramires at half-time and, although he initially looked a little shaky as he looked to get up to the pace of the game, was rarely troubled by Swindon's attacking line thereafter.

  • Ramires
    3.5

    Ramires

Replaced Van Ginkel after 10 minutes and scored with a delightful dink over Foderingham but, presumably due to injury, was withdrawn at half-time.

  • Demba Ba
    2

    Demba Ba

Brought on with 12 minutes remaining and came within a whisker of scoring as he flashed an effort just wide of Foderingham's far post.
